Dear sir or madam Thank you for your interest in my vegetable, herb and flower seeds etc.. The purpose of the enclosed lists is to provide a wide range of vegetable and flower seeds in weights and numbers of seeds suitable for individual needs. At this web site you will find my vegetable and flower seeds lists with their ready reckoners.
Though appearing complicated at first, you should find that the calculation of the cost of different weights of seeds not too difficult if you follow the instructions shown in the lists and in the ready reckoners.
If the costing of your requirements proves to be too difficult you are welcome to phone me at; 01442 251458 or E-MAIL me at; john-robert-size@seeds-by-size.co.uk or write to me at; SEEDS-BY-SIZE 45 Crouchfield Hemel Hempstead Herts. HP1 1PA UK with your questions or your costing requirements for me to quote. Alternatively you can order many vegetable & many flower varieties SOLD BY WEIGHT in £1.25 WORTH PACKETS except where stated as being £2.25 or the cost of a certain number of seeds or the cost of a Pictorial Packet etc. thus avoiding the need to calculate costing from Ready Reckoners. Flower varieties with Group Numbers 37 to 59 will require £2.25 WORTH PACKETS. All weights of vegetable and flower seeds not covered by their respective ready reckoners should be given to me to quote on. Although I try to fill an order on the same day that I receive it, sometimes it takes approx. 2 weeks to fill. On some occasions one item may be delayed by a month or longer. Orders to be posted in the U.K. for under £15.00 will require an additional £1.50 to be added to the total order cost. All orders to be posted to any country in Europe will require an additional £2.00 to be added to the total order cost.
For orders to be posted to the rest of the world an additional £3.00 will be required to be added to the total order cost.
A general order form can be downloaded from a file that can be clicked at the bottom of this page to be printed from to write the order on. All prices on the lists in this Web Site apply from September 1 2007 to August 31 2008 & are priced in retail amounts inclusive of VAT where applicable. The vast majority of these prices will not change in this period of time but I do reserve the right to change ,at any time, any price when such events like a crop failure from my less expensive supplier forces me to buy from a more expensive supplier,I find out that a variety that I thought was still in production is now out of production and thus has become rare to buy & even when I reorganise a group of cultivars to improve their storage conditions etc.
Customers ordering from countries outside the EU can deduct the 17.5 % VAT from flower costs. For example an order of flower seeds to the USA totaling £12.25 (inclusive of the £3.00 postage charge) has the 17.5 % deducted from the order by dividing £9.25 (after deducting the postage cost of £3.00) by 1.175 which comes to £7.67 then add the £3.00 postage cost back on and the total is £10.87. Until I can find a satisfactory on line Credit Card processing service I require payment in Pounds Sterling by post with the details of the order. The Pounds Sterling can be paid in a Euro Cheque,Cheque drawn on an English Bank,International Money Order or Dollar Paper Currency (at $2.14 per £1.00) or Euro Notes (at 1.70 Euro per £1.00). HP1 1PA U K with your questions or your costing requirements for me to quote. Because seeds are affected by Macro & Micro growing conditions treat all cultivation, seed size, plant characteristics etc with great reservation. The real test of any seed is its performance in the unique conditions in which it is sown & grown. I have done my best,to purchase and store the best seeds in the best storage conditions,to give the best cultivation information, but individual growing conditions & seed lots will try hard to prove me wrong one way or another so I must disclaim all information as being 100 percent correct, although I wish it were.
I also do not claim any responsibility for the growing conditions that my customers subject their seeds to when you find that not one seed that I sold you has germinated in such an event I can tell you that there is a close to 100% chance that something happened in the growing conditions. This I have been told by a seed grower who works for an English seed growing company that has been in busines for approx. 150 years.
It is really obvious that because the seeds are kept in very good storage conditions with several offical seed tests which test for germination before they arrive to me & then on to my customers that it is very unlikely that 100% of the seeds will be dead.
In the trade of selling seeds I find my growers always giving conflicting information on the visual characteristics etc of the same variety. I would guess that this is true with all gardeners as well. The only 100% gardening results are the one off results one individual seed gives in one set of growing conditions at one site in one period of time. I think the variety of results is one of the fundamental joys or frustrations depending upon you view of gardening itself that is routine in the gardening.
Happy hunting for the gardening perfection that you probably never will achieve.
Be happy with any results because they are better than no results at all,in my mind at least. Yours sincerely JOHN ROBERT SIZE PS: On Dec. 12 2005 I received an E-mail stating that for the first time in 25 years of shipping seeds of mine to the USA that 66% of a shipment was seized & destroyed because the shipment did not have a Phytosanitary certificate. Although this is the first time this has happened I want to make any USA potential customer or any potential customer from any other country that practices restrictive seed importation policies like the USA aware that any financial risk will rest with you, if your shipment of seeds is not covered by a paid for phytosanitary certificate, valid import licence etc. where required and is then destroyed or lost in the post while in transit to your address.
