Important lily for hybridizing. If you are going to hybridize garden lilies,then L. davidii is a lily that you have to have as it imparts nice inflorescences to its progenies. It's only draw back is narrow foliage and a stem that could be stronger. However,both of these shortcomings are easily compensated for when making crosses. F1's (1 2 3) are nice and fertile. George Slate is a nice garden lily,but it isn't very pod fertile. These 1c seedlings range from creamy orange to pastels depending on which clone of davidii is the pod parent. Most of these progenies appear to be fertile enough for hybridizing and should produce nice seedlings when crossed to George Slate hybrids or backcrossed to George Slate (1 2 3) . Most of the A1.52 seedlings 2 3 4a 4b 5 6 7) don't have a lot of flowers,but some have a good bud count. These backcross seedlings (1 2 3 4) are mostly creams to pastel pinkisk oranges and cute, but some are lavender. Offered mainly as breeding stock. Tinkerbell is 75% cernuum. Tinkerbell doesn't produce much pollen. Tinkerbell carries the dominant carotene inhibitor which it inheritated from cernuum. These backcross seedlings will be segregating for orange and pastel flowers and stem height. The taller pastel flowered progenies will be valuable breeding stock as they will provide a good germplasm base for developing clean purple to lavender garden lilies that don't fade.
